I asked myself what I liked the most about kids and my answer was their kaleidoscopic vision of the world, their way to make the ordinary extraordinary. Therefore, I wanted to recreate that vision through colored tracing paper and integrate it to an old movie’s stills as if kids contaminated it. I also used geometrical shapes to create a typeface with a manual aspect to contaminate even more the black and white movie.

That’s why the poems are put together according to their common theme : the street, inviting the reader for a stroll. I used engraving for the cover because this technique uses the principle of overlapping strata as well as the progressive appearance of the visual while carving the material.
Furthermore, a square cut into every page shows the last poem of the booklet, revealing the theme.
As you might have seen it my name is Chiara JULLIEN and I’m up in the clouds (especially my head) but sometimes I come down to create graphic projects, music or just to capture the world surrounding me. Here, you can see projects that I made for my DNMADE course (made of 3 years) in the Lycée des Arènes in Toulouse.
